Gallery Libby Sellers
Gallery Libby Sellers was established by the former curator of London’s Design Museum in 2007 to support and promote contemporary design. Commissioning new works and curating a program of evolving exhibitions, the gallery has earned a reputation for its critical and concept-led agenda. Recent exhibitions have included solo shows of Italian designers Formafantasma, Swiss designer Nicolas Le Moigne, a retrospective of British graphic designer Richard Hollis and collaborations with both J. & L. Lobmeyr and Royal Tichelaar Makkum.
For Design Miami/Basel 2012 Gallery Libby Sellers has taken as inspiration The Imagery of Chess, an exhibition from 1944 hosted by Julien Levy Gallery, New York. Just as Levy, Max Ernst and Marcel Duchamp invited a veritable who’s who of modernist artists, sculptors and musicians to create a chess salon, so too has Sellers gathered a wealth of both emerging and established designers to contribute to the themed presentation. Editioned commissions by Fabien Cappello, Committee, Fredrikson Stallard, Simon Hasan, Stuart Haygarth, Julia Lohmann and Gero Grundmann, Paul Kelley and Rolf Sachs pay homage to the 1944 exhibition and the royal game.
